What is FIRST?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 as a non-profit organisation in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA. The aim of this organization is to encourage and inspire young people's interest in science and technology. It has since existed for more than 25 years as a STEM education programme for children around the world.
Founder of FIRST
Founder Dene L Kamen is an experienced inventor and entrepreneur who has developed Segway, among other things. Kamen said that the creation of the FIRST competition was his greatest invention, and believes that putting the tools of science and engineering in the hands of the world's young children will help solve the urgent challenges the world faces now and in the future.
